Eoltteok Fishing Experience
When the fierce cold weather continues for more than 3 days, about ice that is about 10 centimeters thick forms on the surface of the river. People then corner the river fish swimming under the ice in groups to the shallow side of the river and use a rice-cake mallet made of old mulberry tree to smash the ice and catch the fish. The fish hammered by the rice-cake mallet temporarily faint and cannot move. After removing the shattered ice, people use a landing net or harpoon to get the fish out of the water. In shallow waters, they use shovels to scoop the fish out along with the water. This method of fishing is called “Eoltteok Fishing.” The river fish growing in Class 1 clear water only faint temporarily. Most of the fish come back to life when they are put in lukewarm water. People release young fish back into the river, and trim for sashimi or cook some of the fish for spicy fish stew. People skate on the surface of the ice to spot fish. A group of people join forces to corner the fish towards the shallow part of the river. Once the fish are cornered into the shallow part of the river, the person carrying a rice-cake mallet hammers with full force to knock the fish unconscious and break the ice. Then, everyone has played their part. You will learn the true fun of Eoltteok Fishing as you make delicious spicy fish stew.

Wooden Necklace Making
The experience is designed to promote the importance of the forest and teach how to have a close relationship with the forest so that all participants can learn to love forests. The purpose of the experience is to familiarize the participants with the instructions for “Forest and Ecology Craft” by learning ecology craft using thinning-out trees. The Ecology Craft Experience that utilizes thinning-out trees based on the subject “Love for Mugunghwa, Love for the Country, Love for Forest, Love for the Planet” takes place in Hongcheon-gun Forest Park where the 1st National Flower Mugunghwa Festival is held.
