Seogak Village

It is located on the outskirts of Hongcheon, about 60km away from Hongcheon-gun. Originally, it belonged to the Naesam-myeon region of Gangneung-gun and was called Bangnae as Hyeon used to be located here. According to the rearrangement of administrative districts, it was included to Bangnae-ri, Nae-myeon, Hongcheon-gun in 1945. The landscape created by Bangnaecheon Valley that follows along the village and the lush forest is very beautiful. The forest trail that connects households in the village are preserved well. It is a forest village where you can see, feel, and enjoy the natural landscape. The village was named Seogak as the majority of the villagers perform the traditional Korean culture and art, calligraphy carving (Seogak), as a hobby. Seogak Village has increased the income for the farming village by promoting wild vegetables as the local specialty business. Utilizing unique calligraphy carving resources that cannot be found in any other region, the village provides the Street Gallery and Calligraphy Carving Experience Program as well as trekking courses and forest trails using the unpaved roads of the forest village. In addition, the entire village is working hard towards the common goal of making the village into a Farming Experience and Sightseeing Village, encouraging visitors to return to the village by increasing the number of accommodation facilities that the region lacks, and making special foods using helmeted guineafowl, golden pheasants, Lady Amherst’s pheasants, and golden pheasants.
