It is located on a highland more than 600 meters above sea level, bordering Old Guryongnyeong Trail (1,013m), which divides Hongcheon-gun and Yangyang-gun in Gangwon-do Province. A total of 103 residents from 53 households live in the village. The majority of the villagers are farmers and some of the villagers run bed and breakfasts and lodges.
Highland radish, napa cabbage, wild vegetables, cultivated wild ginseng, green chili pepper, pumpkin, Korean angelica, soybean, fermented soybean blocks, and Korean honey are the major local products that are sold throughout the country.
The major tourist spots include Odaesan National Park, Sambong Recreational Forest, Old Guryongnyeong Trail, Tongmaeum Valley. In particular, it was designated as a natural habitat for the endangered species, Manchurian touts. Many tourists visit the village for its clean and clear nature, hidden by the sky. In 2009, the village was selected for the New Agricultural and Fishery Village Construction Project, which is currently in progress. In 2011, the village was selected as a Farming Experience Village, which drove the early completion of the Experience Center and the experience programs. Yeolmogeo Village is making new steps towards becoming a rich village from a poor village in a remote area.
