Scenic View #8: Saldun Valley

Saldun Valley

The Saldune valley where the Gyebang stram and Ja-un stream come together, is a place that still holds the mysterious lands of primitive times and a whole other world surrounded by primeval forests from the very entrance. It is written 生屯(Saeng Dune) in Chinese characters and also as Salm Dune. They say a village was first established here when those planning to restore King Danjong to the throne came here in hiding. And it is also recorded in the Cheonggamrok, which is a prophetic book from Chosun times, that this was the one of seven hiding places or the Samdune Saga-ri. The Samdune Saga-ri where you can avoid revolts and hide from disasters are all nearby, centered around the Saldune valley. The Saldune Valley boasts first grade water where EoReumchi and YeolMokeo which are both national treasures inhabit here. In the spring, the harmony of fantastic rocks and royal azalea form a beautiful scene and many rocks along the waters make the valley a great place for families to vacation in.
