A robot vacuum can keep your floors clean enough to reduce the frequency of manual hoovering. Select a vacuum that is well-trained in navigation, can clean stairs and corners and also has large bins that needs to be emptied periodically.

You can also find models that clean and charge on their own This feature could be important for people with children or pets. A lot of the top performers in our tests also have good obstacle avoidance.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is an excellent alternative for those who want a an automated, hands-free cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot after it has filled up.

Both robots are proficient at removing surface dirt on carpets and hard floors and are able to maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart map of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ isn't able to feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we test. It can be stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like rug and hardwood.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including clearing out any clutter or toys it might encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is empty, it returns to its docking station, automatically emptying its debris into the station's external dustbin and continues cleaning the area where it started. The battery's lifespan is around an hour-and-a-half of continuous usage. It takes about three hours to charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the latest technology. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with an auto vacuum cleaner-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot using voice or via the app.

In our testing the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin that eliminates a major source of maintenance and reduces recurring costs.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot floor cleaner to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines, move itself around the room, and even vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. We were able, once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car that is amidst a sea of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then lets cleaner air into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to collect large dust and crumbs. It has three suction modes to meet the task that is being completed. It quickly converts from handheld to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

The model comes with a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100 percent in 3.5 hours. It also offers an easy access to two attachments as well as a handheld. This is a big improvement over the older Dysons, which take a long time to charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its short run time. The claims of its marketing that it can provide up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading as CR's tests show. This is a typical battery-powered vacuum's run time. This is enough time to sweep the typical home however, it's not enough time to reach every spot. (A second pass usually works). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its advantages It's lighter and more maneuverable than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming efficiency is better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums The 694 is an entry-level model that's a great choice for people who don't wish to spend too much on a robotic. It could pick up all kinds of debris and sizes during our tests and would often go over the same area many times for an efficient clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice feature.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models like our top Rated robot vacuum picks such as the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often runs out of battery power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects, as it has fewer parts that require regular maintenance It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels better-built and has a more powerful motor, and works better on bare floors and carpets with a low pile, as well as providing a wider array of features for automation.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name you see on all sorts of electronic gadgets for your home, so it comes as no surprise that they're also one of the most reputable robot vacuum and mop manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a variety of customization options for your robotic cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior modifications, docking frequency settings and many more. The app is simple to use and understand as are other Samsung devices.

In our testing our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86% of it. However, it didn't do particularly well with higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we tried and could be a problem for certain shoppers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that is accessible through the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you to monitor your children or pets when you are away. The filter and dustbin can be cleaned for quick, painless cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with an automatic floor vacuum clean station which helps keep the bin clean and maximizes suction power.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Unlike other robotic vacuums, which are designed for both hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. The robots come with an extra-wide cleaning path, as well as a dustbin that is 2X larger than the competition. This lets them keep the area clean for longer. They also come with two side sweepers that can be used to clean around corners and edges. The POWERSERIES Extreme model comes with AutoSense technology, which senses whether it's picking up dirt or debris on the surface and then automatically adjusts the power level. It also includes a smart application that lets you browse the virtual map, and control the functions and schedules. You can also check the vacuum's status and send it to its dock for charging at the click of a button. The app also allows you to personalize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum by using different colors so you can clearly see which areas it's focused on or where it's stuck.

The app also makes it easy to manually steer the robot if needed. For example my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that has a tendency to make it difficult for other robots I've tried. However, the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border, but it didn't register it as a cliff. The ability to program weekly cleaning schedules is a great time-saving convenience.
