Do Not Buy Into These "Trends" Concerning Item Upgrading

World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and PvE Damage.
For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that ends in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level increases.
Components
Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets in order to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them. The item must be at the very least upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions using fewer Upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level using standard methods.
A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence attributes of the weapon or armor. These upgrades can be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can also be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or by purchasing them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals.
The player can get a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-level version of the item will drop during the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep improving their equipment even if they're not sure of the extent to which it will improve after a future reset.
The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it's possible that the item will eventually become obsolete, or even break, in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items that can increase or even eliminate the chance of failure, and a few upgrades that give a bonus when reinserted into an item.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to improve the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the effectiveness of all nodes in the area around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as possible up to 15 levels.
You will often find in the final game that placing Glyphs is the best way to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded directly to level 15, and they provide significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes much faster.
Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without restriction. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.
Each Glyph has a particular range of values can enhance a stat by, and the value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with a Glyph of the same rank or a higher rank, which will increase the value of the glyph.
There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain tools for gathering unlimited use as well as through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.
Once you have the desired Glyphs, you will have to put them on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Utilizing the Glyph can boost all nodes that are connected to it, so you should try to place your Glyphs close to key nodes on the Graph to maximize the impact. For instance, a Druid should try to position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes, but also be sure to place them near the most critical damage nodes too.
Leveling
The item upgrade system allows players to boost the stats of specific items by inserting upgraded components. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each level requires a different number of components to reach, and the upgrade costs increase as the item upgrader is upgraded.
Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, upgrade items or bought from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. When enough points have been earned, you will be able to claim your upgrade and get its extra bonuses.
When a player upgrades an item it is replaced by a new item level upgrade of the same type. The same armor will be upgraded to an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set bonus. This could be a disadvantage since the item upgrader kit may increase in price even if you do not require it.
Upgrades to items can be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do this. This causes the item to be traded for a new one, with the level 1 base, and a totally different set of bonus bonuses. This can be useful, but should not be repeated often since it can be a waste of resources.
Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times, increasing their value and allows the player to modify their equipment. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player is repeatedly in and out of the water (or is able to swim like a dolphin). This can be upgraded several times, each time raising the maximum roll by an increment of 10. This item is extremely useful in PvP battles, since a perfectly rolled version of it can be worth between 20 and 50 times its value without being upgraded.
Requirements
The ability to upgrade items allows players to increase the level of their available equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate currency and items to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces also improve the strength of their base defense and weapon upgrades items boost their base damage as well as their strength and dexterity.
All items are upgradeable up to five times, except for hero equipment, which is able to be upgraded eight times. Every when you upgrade an item, it has an opportunity to fail. The rate of failure increases as you go beyond the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures will cause the item to revert to its initial state, which will force the user to pay more for materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.
If an item is not upgraded, the experience bar in its growth bar will be reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it earned like the chance to crit damage to attack, other effects (such as an increase in healing over time or reloading speed). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.
When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that if a weapon increases its crit chance it will be applied prior to any damage to attack increases. Slots is a new attribute that has been added to the definitions of items. The value is recalculated each time an upgrade occurs.
The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equal to its base value. For example an item that is commonplace could have five upgrades at a cost. 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items are less expensive per upgrade.
Premium items have different requirements for upgrading than standard gear--for instance, they may require fewer sowels, but they will require more minerals and erons. However, players must visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade costs listed above, each upgrade will require the use of different ingredients for upgrading.
