How to Replace an audi keys replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace audi key the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are various connector pins, and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this component, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors aren't firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, replacement key audi 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I crank the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much all other possibilities out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. Test them out to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. In order to do this it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in the gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is failing and should be replaced. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly if they're an Bosch unit like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part would be an option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues with your vehicle. It is a crucial part of your replacement audi a4 key's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

Subaru-logo.pngThe G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This part is common across the Replacement Key Audi 80-100-200-RS2 range, beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS An and New audi Key 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.
