Illinois Business Developments



Illinois is the biggest market of the Midwest and home to over 2000 corporate headquarters, a vibrant entrepreneurial scene, and more than 1.2 million small-scale businesses, offers all of the assets global firms require to flourish in the modern business. From world-class infrastructure that connects businesses with their suppliers and customers, to a skilled workers in various fields and a thriving manufacturing base - Illinois leads in many areas such as clean and advanced agricultural technology, energy, and life sciences logistics for transportation.



Illinois has experienced a tremendous increase in foreign investment growth over recent years. Countries like Britain, Japan, Germany and China were among the most investing in Illinois and by 2023, this sum was greater than USD $13.2 billion in agriculture, manufacturing and other sectors in Illinois all by itself.



In 2014, over $1 billion in incentives has been given out under Illinois' Reimagining Energy and Vehicles program to companies that provide electric vehicles as well as green energy production. The Illinois Small Business Development Center located at Southern Illinois University is funded partly through a cooperative arrangement between U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The Center assists entrepreneurs from the local area with help in starting or expanding their businesses by offering services like free workshops on business planning, one-on-one counseling sessions with experienced Business Advisors and access financing opportunities.



State officials in Indiana are insisting on employers offering higher wages and benefits as a method of keeping child care workers working across the nation and facing a lack of employment. The decision comes after the closure of a care facility in Bronzeville which was struggling to retain staff.



Illinois Department of Labor also launched an online tool designed to provide small-sized businesses with information on lawful employment practices. Employers can search using keywords or browse categories on the site; as well as connect to the appropriate state agencies and sources.



Illinois Business Development Authority (IBDA) has taken steps to promote awareness of Illinois' tax incentives for business expansion. The IBDA hosted an online webinar on the subject. The webinar was recorded and will later be available on their website.
