WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item upgrader mod from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, item level upgrade and accessories. They are purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which displays a preview of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item level upgrade. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through several methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was altered a bit, with numerous new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level of an item upgrade for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will cost less, even if they belong to a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available once certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrade upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
