UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors wear out with time and require to be replaced. It is crucial to keep the same dimensions as the handles you have previously replaced when replacing them.

Inline Lever/Lever

It is important to match up the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also called the handle centre or [empty] 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect to match the correct handles.

After you have identified the proper PZ size and the correct PZ size, you must make sure that the lever and push pads are designed to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your conservatory door handles. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that increase security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.

A euro cylinder needs to be properly measured to ensure that it is the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to each end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. If you are unable to measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, so it is important that it's not too long.

Most newer cylinders have been designed with bump and anti-drill features built into their design. They are designed to decrease attacks by forcing cylinders to turn in a different direction. This helps stop the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

There are also cylinders that have been designed to resist snapping. This is a common attack on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is a lot faster and less difficult than opening multipoint locks. It also leaves no evidence of a break-in, which could hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is located in the base of your door handle's backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution to return the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after usage. Previously a lot of these types of handle did not have a spring built into them and without this they are more likely to slide or drop when the locking mechanism is disengaged. This simple feature is one of the best methods to correct this and it is also a great way to prevent your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in the open or closed position, as these aren't always easy to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes are specifically designed for use with multipoint locks sprung but they won't work with multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will require a bespoke hole cut into your backplate in order for them to fit (please look at the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution for damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are supplied in one unit. They come with a square cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.
